When I awakened this a.m. at five o’clock and then drove up and then hiked Albion Basin with a friend of mine, I didn’t envision the color explosion that was to happen high on the west side of Albion Basin in Alta Ski Resort in Utah. The wildflowers have been awesome fed by a rainy season, which created some of the colors you see. Contrary to popular opinion, the shot is made in camera with a circular polarizer, and three Singh-Ray Graduated Neutral Density filters, a 4-stop Reverse Graduated Neutral Density, a 3-stop Soft-step Graduated Neutral Density, and a 2-stop Soft Step Graduated Neutral Density. Then just get your exposure correct, with some minor movement of the hand-held neutral densities up and down during exposure.
Enjoy.

How do you avoid camera shake while moving your filters during the exposure?
Get the largest, most steady, rock steady tripod and head that you can find and then don’t press hard on those Singh-Rays filters. Easy does it. A little movement without pressing the things against the lens…just a whisper.
